The Studion Monastery, or the Monastery of St. John the Forerunner at Studios, was among the most famous monasteries in ancient Byzantium. It was originally founded as a daughter monastery of the venerable Mar Saba in Palestine, and it preserved and nurtured the living tradition that it inherited from the Holy Land. The Studion, in turn, gave rise to numerous fathers and elders of the Church, and it produced the saints who would go on to found the first monasteries on Athos.
We have taken this now lost monastery as our namesake to remind us of our own duty to be transformed by the spiritual inheritance that has been passed down to us, and of our responsibility to then transmit this spiritual inheritance to the next generation. Accordingly, we are a non-profit 501c3 organization of Orthodox Christian laity devoted to helping facilitate the passing on the ancient heritage of our faith, as well as to assist ancient Orthodox Christian communities in need around the world.
Though we have a blessing from Archbishop Damianos of Sinai for our work involving and assisting St. Catherine's Monastery and we are working to cooperate closely in the process of helping to meet their needs, we are an independent organization and do not represent St. Catherine's Monastery or the Archdiocese of the Sinai in any capacity.
